The society has funded the purchase of the land, earthworks, forestry clearance and road building. From its own resources, it continues to find the money to buy the many, many things from nails to power tools and sand to bridge timbers that are required to actually turn a dream into a solid reality that will long survive those that build it. It is a sobering thought that with nominal maintenance, the Longhall will readily stand for 150 years and with sensible care there is no reason why it should not see in the third millennium.
The six hundred cubic feet of wood for the main frame was paid for with a grant from the Kent Rural Revival Fund. A Heritage Lottery Fund grant bought a somewhat larger amount of timber for the roof structure and a further grant from the Kent Rural Revival Fund purchased the 1,200 cubic feet of timber for two hundred and twenty yards of palisade. So far, everything we have built is made of oak.
Various smaller grants contribute to the whole and many people both in the UK and beyond have contributed to the funds of the project, sometimes to support the infra-structure, sometimes to forward a specific project like the pond or gardens. But it is the Regia members that work on the project month in , month out in the blazing sun and bitter cold, who give their time freely and without reserve that is our most valuable asset. Without their commitment, enthusiasm and hard work none of this could have happened.
